Streaming Video Help

Before modifying any options in Windows Media Player, we recommend checking you have the Multimedia Settings correctly configured in Internet Explorer. The two important options that should be ticked are outlined in red below:

The Windows Media Player has options which can be adjusted if you are experiencing difficulties with audio and video playback.

The Windows Media Player
Locate the Windows Media Player, you should navigate from your Start Menu button --> Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment and click on the Windows Media Player.

Opening Windows Media Player Options Panel
When Windows Media Player is running, if the menu bar is not already showing, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl and M should display a menu bar at the top. If you are using Windows Media Player version 9, you can click on the show menu bar icon (as shown below) in the top left hand corner in order to show the menu bar.

Once the Menu bar is available, you will need to click on the Tools menu and select "Options"

An "Options" Panel as shown below will appear

Click on the tab labelled "Performance" (the forth tab on the bottom row).

The Performance Tab
The settings in this performance tab will vary according to your computer's architecture, however, below we have suggested some settings that may improve performance for i-Tutorial playback according to the minimum PC specification recommended.

a) i-Tutorials video stream requires a connection speed greater than 128Kbps to play smoothly, however your broadband connection you should be providing you with significantly more bandwidth. If you are experiencing playback problems, you can manually set the connection speed to at least 256Kbps to allow sufficient bandwith to play an i-Tutorial video. Confirm this setting by clicking the button labelled "OK".

b) If your i-Tutorial video playback is stuttering, increasing the buffer time to 30 seconds may help to smooth the playback out. Confirm this setting by clicking the button labelled "OK".

c) If you are suffering from severe video playback problems (ie. the video is not playing at all), you should click the button labelled "Restore Defaults" (marked above by the letter 'e') and slide the Video acceleration slider to None. Confirm this setting by pressing OK.

d) If are suffering from poor synchronization between the audio and video, click on the button labelled "advanced". The panel shown below will become available.

We recommend that the checkbox is checked (as marked above by f ) for the "Drop frames to keep AV in sync" option.
